“A really good group of lads to be in house with - good fun, lots of humour, excellent sport - some of us even sneaked out before breakfast to play tennis on a grass court behind bushes in the school grounds. And we played football and cricket with tennis balls in the garden - and went swimming in the Black Hole, and sometimes in the Earn. My memory is of lots of good company. My father had been in the old Academy House. Col (who sadly died) and Mrs Baines, (who was lovely), ruled us wisely and well, and I for one enjoyed almost all of the food (but not the Sunday sugarless rhubarb) but latterly I did a lot of training, so was always hungry. The year after I left MAC, to become a Vet Student, I got a summer holiday job as a school groundsman - and part of my job was to look after the garden in Academy House - which included looking after the rhubarb, picking it - and carrying into the kitchen, while smiling at my former compatriots! (Their term started about 3 weeks before Glasgow University took up again). When I graduated as a Vet, I came back an did a locum in the Crieff Practice, under Gordon Ashworth - also a former pupil and, like me, a winner of the cross-country. Peter MacNaughton (of Glenearn) had taken over his Dad's farm, the Cairnies, at Glenalmond, and one evening I got a call there to attend to a wounded Ewe. It was funny to think, while I was suturing-up his ewe and he was holding it, - Peter as a Farmer, me as the Vet - that it hadn't been very long since we had both been schoolboys at MAC !. I still have a connection with Morrisons, via three grand-nieces, Francesca, Louise and Martha Bailey.who are very happy there. Good wishes to all, Aye, Craig.”
